My Favorite Products of the Summer

My Favorite Products of the Summer

It’s the first official weekend of fall and it definitely feels like fall in LA. It's raining in September which is super odd but I’m taking full advantage by staying on the couch to finish this, I’ve been trying to get this post live for a couple of weeks now.

Anywho, this post has nothing to do with fall, it's actually all about my favorite products of the summer!

This summer I set out on a quest for some new additions to my beauty routine. I have had some really good results so I wanted to share them with you all. I’m sure you have heard about many of these already, they’re not really new, but they are new to me!

Hair Products

Around the end of July, I got my hair cut and colored. Lightened her up for summer, as I usually do. My guy is amazing, Stefano Lima at The Establishment Salon in Silverlake. After my appointment, I needed a new shampoo/conditioner.

I decided to try Ouai Repair Shampoo and Ouai Repair Conditioner. I am very happy with the results and there are so many little things I like about these. The shampoo gets foamy enough while still being sulfate-free, I also feel like my hair gets really clean. Both have a great smell and the conditioner is very conditioning. I also love how the shampoo bottle is slightly larger than the conditioner and I can see just enough through the bottle to tell how much is left. These small points may seem silly but I appreciate that attention to detail.

Since I colored my hair, I also wanted to get a purple treatment of some sort, to keep the blonde alive and fresh as long as possible. I went to Sephora and one of the girls suggested these purple drops that you add to your leave-in products. She made a good point, “Why use two shampoos, just get these and use them as often as needed.”, IGK Mixed Feelings Leave-In Blonde Drops. I simply drop 2-4 drops into styling cream, mix together with my hands and comb through wet hair. If you wash your hair daily, I would only use these 1-3 times a week but do what feels right for you.

Next, I wanted a hair mask or some sort of conditioning treatment. I have colored my hair for 12+ years and use heated tools on it a lot so I have to take good care of her and give her a deep conditioning treatment at least once a week. I have heard good things so I thought I would try Olaplex No. 3 Hair Perfector - “A treatment, not a conditioner, that reduces breakage and visibly strengthens hair, improving its look and feel.”

I’ve noticed such a difference in my hair after the last few weeks. My hair feels clean, stronger and I notice less coming off on my brush. I saw my stylist today for a trim and he immediately noticed a difference, he was very happy with the condition of my hair. The health of my hair isn’t fully attributed to these products but they have for sure helped.

Another awesome hair product addition has been Living Proof’s Instant De-Frizzer. CA isn’t humid but my hair is always slightly frizzy. I used this as a final styling step and it always makes my hair feel smooth and fresh.

Skin Care

I am completely new to Glam Glow and I love this treatment. Their Gravity Mud Firming Treatment is amazing! My skin immediately feels tighter and lifted after I peel it off. This is my first experience with a peel-off mask and it is all-around great, it smells and feels amazing. I’m excited to incorporate some of their other masks and treatments into my routine. I add this into my routine twice a week, leaving it on for 30 minutes each time.

The checkout line at Sephora gets me every time. While waiting to pay for my Glam Glow Mask, I noticed Laneige’s Lip Sleeping Mask, I’ve heard so many people talk about this so I grabbed it. I wish I had grabbed two because it's amazing and I want to leave it on my lips at all times. This one stays in my nightstand but I want another one to keep my purse to use throughout the day. I try and use this every night so my lips feel moisturized and healthy, I hate when I fall asleep and forget to apply it.

Ulta also got me on the impulse buy at the checkout line. I grabbed a small bottle of Mario Badescu’s Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs, and Rosewater. This product isn’t new by any means but its a wonderful new addition for me. I use this anytime I need a refresh but always as the last step in my skincare routine, I feel like its a good closer.

Other Cool Stuff

Since moving into this apartment a constant struggle has been good lighting for make-up. The bathroom light just isn’t bright enough and I have very little natural light; my old apartment had a window in the bathroom, I kind of miss that now that I think about it. I heard about these lights from one of my favorite bloggers, @jordanunderwood and I thought they sounded like the perfect solution. Leopara Makeup Lighting System is a set of 4 portable lights that stick on and off any mirror, they will even be perfect to travel with. Love these, they are exactly what I needed and such a great option for those of us with terrible lighting.

In early June, I started sleeping with a humidifier next to my bed. The air in CA can be very dry and I have noticed such a difference in my skin since adding this in. It also helps cool the air in our bedroom so that makes the room feel a lot better. I got this one from Amazon, it's not very big but if I fill it up then it usually lasts all night. I have used it every night for the last four months and she is still going strong so it's worth the price for sure.

My last new product addition is Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides. I add this into my green juice every morning and I have been loving the results. Collagen is supposed to be really good for Hair, Skin, Nails, and Joint Health. As I mentioned previously, my hair is in great condition and I've also noticed my skin feeling much softer (I’ve even noticed that a scar on my leg is less noticeable). I haven’t noticed much of a difference in my nails or joints but we’ll see. I bought this from Amazon at one point and I didn’t feel like it was the same product. It didn’t dissolve as well the ones I bought from Target so I wouldn’t recommend buying from Amazon but that’s just my opinion.

If you try any of these, let me know in the comments how they worked for you. I am always looking for new and innovative products so if you have any suggestions, leave them for me down below as well! See you guys soon!
